Located on the Indo Tibetan border, surrounded by Tibet to the east, Garhwal Himalayan to the south is the beautiful Kinnaur district .About 200 km from Shimla , one enters the strikingly beautiful district of Kinnaur where the river Satluj carves deep gorges through the the high mountains. The Satluj river which rises on the southern slopes of Kailash mountain near Mansarover in Tibet flows through the Kinnaur valley. Our journey began from Shimla , the state capital of Himachal . A day's journey along the river Satlej took us to Rampur which may be called the Gate way of Kinnaur . Near the Rampur market there is the king's palace which is worth seeing . From Rampur we went to Sangla , a small village surrounded by snow capped mountains on all side . A day's journey took us to Chitkul , India's last village beyond which is Tibet .We stayed at Sangla for two days and then visited Kalpa , a hilly resort ,encircled by snow capped peaks like the KinnaurKailash. Our last destination was Sarahan , famous as a Hindu pilgrimage of this region .
